Making Kid horses that will grow up with a child not age out before them

Here on the farm we believe in the practice of one man, one horse, one team.  Or as we say One Kid, One Colt, One team.  We are making it our passion to train horses here on the farm to prove that the age of a horse has nothing to do with ability.  I remember the day my Mom was told she was crazy at a rodeo.  You see I was riding a horse that had been pulled out of the pasture just months before this performance and with a ripe old age of 5 was being trained by me.  I was 12 at the time.  Mom told me that if I wanted a roping horse that I would have to make one as she didn't have the kind of money to took to buy a trained one.  From the time I got him ready to rodeo people said that only older horses made good kid horses.  That they were the only ones that were dead dog broke.  Well, That isn't so and as a result Mom was called crazy and told that my horse could get me kill.  That didn't change Mom's mind as she knew different.  With the right training never once did my horse try anything that I didn't want him to.  Never did he buck with me on him.  He bucked but just when he was on the pasture or playing.  Never did that horse act out or ever make me feel scared.  After just 60 days of working him, he was ready to go.  I took that horse to more shows, roping and rodeos and placed time after time.  Yes he was young and yes he was trained by me, a 12 year old kid, but he proved what we have always  believed.  One Man, One Horse, One team.
That horse was Ice.  And today I am 22 years old and he is my 15 year old practice horse.  He still has so many years ahead of him too.  Anytime I need to work on me, he is my go to guy.  He gives me the same run every time allowing me to fix my bad habits.   He not only won way to many titles and buckles and tack to mention but he also has had many riders.  For example, the year I won the 4X4 Chute out at the Dallas State Fair of Texas, Not only had he carried me to victory through four events but he helped two other kids place and had more then 10 runs on him for the day in the roping event alone.  He had more runs on him them any other horse at the event.   He not only calf roped but he team roped, ran barrels and poles as well.  And no one is calling Mom crazy anymore.  We have made it our life time passion to put out young Kid horses so that those kids that are lucky enough to have one can grow up for many years using, riding, winning and loving the same horse.  Here are a few great ones that got their training right here on the farm.

Meet Storm

Storm is a Champagne Quarter horse that came to us as a little filly.  By three years old she was a finished calf horse that could do most anything you asked of her.  Sadly, her size didn't fit into our work here on the farm and nothing I did could make anyone want her because she was small and young.  Everyone that looked at her said that she would make a great kid horse SOMEDAY.  Well, someday came when a young man from out of state caught site of a video or two.  They planned a visit and the rest is history.  To look at her now you can see she has done a lot in her short life.  By the age of 5 this little girl made her new owner an amazing kid horse.  Her owner had very little riding experience when he started but She was patient and managed to take her young man all the way to Rookie of the Year in the Little Britches division of Rodeo allowing him to cross the stage with Cowboys in Vegas.  And she did all this after less then a year of being paired with him.  Buckle after Buckle and Title after Title Storm is out to prove that a Young Mare CAN do it all with a Kid on her back.  In 2019 they set a record in their home town in Louisiana for the most titles and buckles won by one person/horse.  CONGRATULATIONS TO THEM BOTH FOR A JOB WELL DONE!!!  Keep up the great work and remember to have fun.

Meet Precious

Precious joined the farm as an under fed little mare who has scares and marks to show how abused she had been in the past.  With a lot of love, groceries and time to learn to trust again.  She found her way back to health and happiness.  Her journey took a few years as there was many things that had been done to her that had to be undone but in the end she too made us super proud.  Her big heart and will to learn restored, she has gone on to join a new family.  We are proud to say that both Her and her young man have joined the Prefert Junior Elite Team where Precious was Nominated for Horse of the year.
