I know that sounds weird but let me explain. The chicken coop is located in the sheep and alpaca pen. We let the chickens out every morning, they put them selves up every night and they go in the coop during the day to lay their eggs and eat. The reason we cover the chicken door opening is because the southdown sheep have figured out that if they get down on their knees they can push into the coop.
So why would they want to get in there. Well, that is easy. We feed our chickens corn in the winter and it is in an old hog feeder in the coop. The problem with the sheep getting into the corn is that they can founder on it. That is a condition where they overeat and their stomachs can't handle it. That condition can cause their death if we don't prevent it and keep it from happening.
We use the woven wire because the hens can hop right over the wires and get in through the square spaces in the wire. It looks funny but it works out best for everyone. After I got that done I cleaned out the chicken coop before I went to rope and work Storm.
