I have to admit in the end Mom turned out to be the best one of us at shearing. We don't clip as close to the skin as a professional would but we are happy with the results and there were only a few very small knicks on two of the four we sheared. We did learn one very important lesson though. If you purchase ready to use shears you still need the blades sharpened or they will not last through shearing anything more then about 2 goats. Mom purchased extra blades tonight and we hope to have them all sharpened up and ready to finish the job on Wed. We will not be shearing tomorrow unless the rain holds off a few more days. If it doesn't though we will be working on them again. By the end of the week we plan on having everything sheared. And we are praying we aren't losing to much fiber by leaving them a bit fuzzy.
Today was interesting. Busy but Interesting. First Mom went to see Cap. He is doing great. Mom held and played with him for awhile. He was so happy to see her..... gets around great and you wouldn't even know his leg was gone if you didn't see the staples in his leg ... I mean stub... LOL While Mom was gone Dad and I did alot of farm chores. By chores I mean stuff like cleaning the goat shed, taking down the winter sides to the chicken coop, cleaning up the barn, Cleaning and removing the wood that covers the windows to the sheep/alpaca shed. We did get alot done but Most of our day was taken by Mom doing taxes (she goes to the tax man tomorrow) and Shearing the goats. As you remember the Shearer forgot us and when we called it would be over another month before he was to be back in the area. With 90 degree weather already here, my flock can't wait. So Mom bought shears and today we went to work.
