Two days of work

3/12/2013

I am sorry that I didn't get the blog done yesterday.  To be honest, I didn't get a whole lot of anything done yesterday.  I had a dentist appointment and as you all know it takes some time for them to work on my teeth because of my issues.  With the lambs keeping me busy and the whole time change thing I am just off key and not very productive.  (I didn't even get all my school work done yesterday ... I had to finish an assignment or two today that were from yesterday)
I did get something done today though.  I wasn't for me however.  Well, Okay it kind of is for me in the long run.  You see I helped Mom finish up a project she is working on.  And while I can't post everything here now I think most of you will be able to help when the time comes.
Here is the scoop... Mom has decided that she wants to put in a Ruminent Education Center on the farm to focus on sheep and goats.  She has put together a business plan and everything.  Remember Mom has been raising baby animals as a business for 9 years now.  She has taken the knowledge we have learned and put it into a working practice to show local small scale farmers how to diversify their farms and cut operation costs by pasture rotation to control parasites and weeds (along with a few other things).  She also has included how they can harvest other crops from these animals such as fleece and meat.  (I don't like to think about the meat part but Mom says to help the farmers get more paychecks she has to include every aspect that can bring in cash flow)  She included in her materials her poultry stuff and how people can sell every part of the birds from eggs to meat to fertilizer.  She has crunched the numbers and found that while it is possible for small scale farmers to make a little profit off of Poultry they can use the same guildlines for Goats and Sheep capitalizing on every part of the animal to bring in cash flow.  Mom says no small scale farmer will be rich but they can turn a small profit and have a sustainable farm.
Mom says the Education Center will allow her to hold workshops jon everything from birthing lambs, to health issues, to spinning, weaving and even wool washing.  She says it will allow her to help others while doing the fun stuff.  She is going to try and get some funding for this project through Kickstarter so she has been busy working on getting her project set up.  She even had to make a video and that is what I have been helping her do.  When she gets it all done I know I will be able to get everyone to help spread the word.  And who knows maybe even get her center funded.    I am excited and can't wait for the announcement so I can post a link here.  Then Mom will be posting updates on a project just like I do each night.  Oh did I mention that we are going to do the insides of the buildings mostly ourselves.  Mom has even drawn up the layout and knows what she will be building and what a professional will be doing.  I am telling you she has it all down in detail... Now for tonights cuteness

Does anyone know what that is??  Well, it is Cheyenne and she is sporting her new jacket complete with hood.  Mom has her wear it and tucks her ears up in it when ever she goes outside.
Picture
It seem Cheyenne could care less if her ear show or not, I however, think she looks silly...
Picture
And as you can tell Jethro doesn't seem to really care either....

Not even when they are playing ...

I did get Pickles and Momma out with the flock for a bit Monday and I think they had fun ... In a few days they will rejoin the flock permenantly.

And LaKota and her baby Comanche are also on the same step to rejoining the flock.  I hope by Friday they will be staying out even at night.
