The Good, The bad and the Babies???

3/3/2013

So today was the Craziest Day ever on this Farm.  We started with one new birth in the shed not far from where Sage lay and gave up on life.  Momma Shetland gave birth to a wonderful black Baby Boy to start our Colored Flock of shetlands.  Sage on the other hand Lay down last night and pasted in her sleep.  I have to say that I kind of saw that coming.  With all the medication we tried and then her losing her fleece and her age ... I just hate to say good bye to old friends that way.
We then took time to juggle the lambs around a bit to make room for Momma and the new baby.  We got the cam up and running out at the barn to keep watch on them and then Dad and I headed off to my Rodeo.  I took First in the ribbon roping and took to long for my other events to place well.  Just before my last event Mom Called.
When she got home from work she found the cattle had taken out a large part of our fence by the house and they were out in the road.  So she put them in the pens where the horses go.  While moving the cattle she heard the wrong cries from the shed and found a baby and another southdown Momma... She got the pen that Momma Shetland was in divided and Moved the new baby in to the other half.  Then She had to get The southdown in.  Without Dad and I, Mom can't carry a hundred pound ewe by herself.  Thankfully Ms. Karen showed up and got the gates as Mom worked to make the Southdown get in the stall.  Mom Said it was the longest walk of the shortest distance she had done in a long time.  While at the barn yard Mom saw another ewe who showed signs of early Labor and put her in the shed thinking it would be tomorrow before we had any more births.
After that, Ms. Karen and Mom went back to the house and had a cup of Coffee together.  They checked the lambs before Ms. Karen headed home to finish her laundry.  Mom went to putting a video together for me.  (I took some video before I went to the rodeo and Mom promised to edit it.)  Mom thought she would be smart and go shoot some footage of the new baby and add in to it too.
So she headed back to the barn only to find the one her and Ms. Karen had penned gave birth to twins.  I got home just in time to  help Mom move the last set of twins into the barn.  (Mom was working to dry the last one when I got there)  I have to say Mom is doing great at this birthing thing... I just pray she never has to do it with one hand per a ewe.
I hope you all enjoy the video Mom put together for everyone but I will tell you it includes all births ... Oh and yes we need three more indian tribe names (one girl and two boys) and we need a boy "p" name ... Any suggestions???

How about Lakota, Dakota, and Hopi?

For a P name how about Paladin (a knight) or Pericles (a famous Greek)?
