The day from H.E. double Hockey Sticks!

2/15/2012

Today was awful.  I know everyone knows who Hope is.  And I am sure you know that she was staying with us just until her puppies got big enough to be adopted out.  Well, today Hope went back to the shelter early and here is why:
First, I have to say that my chicks were hatching just fine and I had about 6 hatched out so far.  Then this morning Hope was just down right mean.  I had the chicks in a tote under a heat lamp, in the bathroom and if you hit our bathroom door hard enough it pops opens.  Well, Hope and the puppies were in the den and Hope Hit the bathroom door over and over again until she got it opened and she killed all but two chicks.  She wasn't even eating them she was just killing them.  She had blood everywhere and it was horrible.  I am glad Mom took her back to the shelter.  She wasn't hungry or starving.  She did it just because they peeped and she could do it.  I will never understand why she did that but Mom promised that she wouldn't let her get to anything else.  I was worried about the lambs so to keep that promise Mom took Hope and the puppies right back to the shelter!
Mom says Hope was just being a dog and that we don't know how long she was on her own before she came to the shelter so we shouldn't be to hard on her.  I am trying not to be mad at her but right now I don't want her or the puppies in my thoughts at all.
After my School work I tried to find something to do to take my mind off of the scene that took place this morning.  Here is what I came up with.

So what do you think?  I am thinking of selling them.  If anyone is interested in one just leave a comment or email me.  Making them is better then being mad but I am still mad just not as mad because at least now I am thinking of them and not what happened.  I figure if I keep making them I will get less and less mad .....

I'm so very sorry this happened, RJ. I like that you're putting your energy into making something neat instead of being mad -- that's awesome! I wish I had room to put one of your crosses and I would buy one!

How sad. But your mom is right that this is how dogs can be. You can't really change the basic nature of a dog. The good part is that you have given Hope a start at being house broken. She may not be able to be an inside dog in the future, but at least she had the chance. I hope the rest of your little chicks hatch safely. And yes, re-directing your energy to something positive is excellent.
