Spring on the farm ...

3/26/2012

First let me say I am so sorry.  I am running behind and I have not gotten to blog every day.  I feel like that is just not acceptable.  Please understand that not only am I trying to keep up and build my college fund (which sometimes feels like it is turning into a full time job) but I have school, 4-H and a MOM!  Have you ever tried to do things late in the evening with time running out and Mom getting on to you to "get into bed!  5AM comes to early for late nights around here!"  I will also tell you that "get to bed" doesn't mean just strip down to the BVDs and hop in bed.  Around here there are very few days you can skip a shower before bed or you will have things you don't want in your bed, in your bed.
Anyway,  for some reason every time the time changes I start running behind.  It seems like there is more day light in the evening but I am not getting things done.  (I will tell you that it might be because I rope every evening with Dad now since it doesn't get dark as early)  Maybe My roping is the problem but then again I have other problems that other bloggers don't have.  My biggest problem is that I use a cameraMOM instead of a cameraMAN when I want to do a video cast (which I wanted to do once a week).  There are both good and bad things about using a cameraMom.  First cameramom is cheaper then a cameramen.  Then there is the whole cameramom has a job so you have to do it when she has time.  Unlike cameraman who will do it whenever you pay them to.   Another issue is the equipement.  Cameramom uses a flip and helps you fight with the computer to make it work.  Cameraman has fancy equipement that works with anything but that just made his fee go up... Well, as you can see at this time in my life (14 years old) I can't afford anything fancier then CameraMom so I will have to be happy with whatever video casts I get.  Even if they aren't as often as I want them to be.
There are other things that are getting in the way of my Blog time as well.  Things I can't control.  (These things come from Mom and even Dad admits he can't control her)  I bet you forgot the whole spring cleaning kick Mom was on.  Well, she hasn't and that means I haven't either.  She isn't done yet and that has added issues to my life as well.   This is a before picture of an area of my room I had to clean up just today or I couldn't do anything else.

And here is the after shot.  Like I said I had to do this area just today.  (Thanks to Ms. Karen ... LOL)
Picture
I do think it looks better but don't tell Mom she would tell me "See I told you it would."
Anyway, there have been other things going on that have kept me from blogging this last week as well.  I know most of you remember Pansy and Petuina the two shetland bottle ewes I got.  Well, Pansy (the littlest one) has had a few issues with bloating.  Mom, Dad and I have been taking turns getting up many times in the middle of the night over the last few nights and keeping watch.  We have gotten to a point were we add Baking Soda to everyone of her bottles and she does okay.  To tell you the truth we had to try like 4 other remedies before we found one that worked for her.  It is enough to drive a person crazy with fear.
Now let us add to that Mom's and mine's allergies ... (Okay is Mine's a word?  Any teachers what to correct that for me?  Not making sense right now... Sorry)  With Spring comes Mom's love of flowers and gardening.  Another problem is that her and I both have really bad allergies.  Mine leads to asthma and Mom's leads to migraines.    The bad part is that Mom had to mow today and everything is in bloom... Check out the Red Buds. Look really close and you will see a bee in the picture...
Picture
Oh and check out the wild plum trees ... They make the air outside smell so great but after awhile it will make you sick because it gets really stout smelling.  They look snow covered at times but we didn't plant them so we just have to deal with them... and the wild plums make great jelly.
Picture
And lets not forget the flowers in full bloom too ... We have a whole fence row of them ... great to look at but  baaaadddd for the allergies.  (get it bbbaaddd like a lamb ... LOL  Okay I am not funny sorry.)
Picture
Well, I guess everyone now knows what has been keeping me busy this week and I hope to be better about blogging daily from now on.... Oh, did I mention that is issues with the shearer, Billy's lambs do nothing but chase the big lambs and the alpaca, Angel went to her first Rodeo and did really good, And Mom's shelter is offically a 501 (c)3 (tax deductable) and on petfinder now???  Oh I guess I will have to save all that for another blog post or people are going to quit reading because it is to long ... LOL!  One final thing.  Mom is trying to figure out how to make our propane tank look like a sheep ... She saw one done as a pig and thought it was just to cute and she has this idea ours needs to look like a sheep.  Here is a picture of it ... Any ideas how to do that???  It is a large 500 gallon tank.
Picture
Oh and we are making a new Fresh Egg sign for the front driveway too ...

Okay really I am stopping now .... LOL

Propane tanks kinda DO look like sheep! Just paint a face and lots of big curly ques for the fleece. Kind of like how I carve sheep on some of my pots....A black face will stand out....

You have been busy, but it made a nice newsy post!

Yours: Now let us add to that Mom's and mine's allergies ..
Better: Now let us add to that Mom's and my allergies

Yours: Another problem is that her and I both have really bad allergies.
Better: Another problem is that she and I both have really bad allergies.

How I figure it out: read the sentence as if you are just talking about one person. Read it twice, once with just your mom and once with you. What words do you use? They are the same words you should use when your are talking about both of you in the same sentence. If that doesn't make sense email me and I'll try again.

I use this trick ALL the time.

Thanks for the help ... I will have to use that rule too. To be honest Mom explained your rule to me and I get it now ... It is easy ... Hope I remember to use it

Hey don't feel as if you need to apologize for anything! Your room looks great, especially all your trophies. The flowers are so beautiful! I have allergies too so I can feel that pollen all the way over here... I hope little Pansy is starting to feel better now, please make a big fuss of those lambs for me.

RJ- mine's is a word, but it has this meaning" belonging to the mine"

So "It is the mine's bulldozer" would be correct.

The word "mine" as the possessive of the pronoun "I" doesn't need an 's; it is already possessive. "I own that sheep. It is mine."

Kara is right about the trick to decide which pronoun to use- I use that trick all the time too!

Glad the lamb is doing better.

Hi, RJ. I haven't commented in a long time, but I am reading. Sounds like things are busy at the Straw Farm. I think you are doing great with this blog thing. Are the iris bulbs I sent you showing any sings of life. If they are duds, I will definitely send you more this fall. I'm determined to get something from NY growing and thriving in OK.

I've been wondering if you are interested in professional sports? I know you love rodeo, but how about baseball or football or basketball?
