Hey Everyone, It is me again. (Mom) We have had a long week but a good week. Even though we enjoyed the week I think that we had the most fun today when RJ showed his sheep. First let me just say that RJ did just as he was suppose to. His class was the first to show as he was the only Breeding stock in the lamb show. Most People thought Chief was a baby and with the change of the weather he assured them he wasn't. Throughout the week we had answered many questions about everything from Shearing to where to get one. Anyway, This morning RJ was lined up in his box with his back to the judge ... Facing his lambs. (Both Bear and Chief were in the same box) Sorry the photos aren't better but between the laughing and the lighting getting good photos became hard. He backs out of his box and as he turns to lead Chief to the center of the show ring, We all notice the look on the judges face. It was priceless. He was horrified, Shocked and bewildered all at once. You could see all kinds of thoughts running through his mind. RJ walks to the center of the ring Chief right with him and drops to one knee and sets Chief up pretty as you please. The judge looks in horror at our Extention Agent who was sitting there with this huge grin on his face. (Gage is the kind that likes to throw the judges something to shake them up from time to time) The Agent tells the Judge don't worry there is only one you don't even have to choose. The Judge takes the mic and returns to the center of the ring where Chief and RJ are set up and waiting. The judge was very honest with RJ and said "This is a first for me" He admitted that it was the first time he had ever even seen a Southdown Babydoll in real life let alone judged one. He looked Chief over like he was suppose to while everyone waited quietly to see what he had to say. When he is done looking like he is trying to judge the lamb, The Judge looks right at RJ and says .... "Son, I am sure this is a fine Specimen" Everyone in the Crowd just busted up. The judge just shook his head and said "Give this boy a first." RJ got up shook the judges hand and scooped Chief up in his arms and carried back to the box where he tied him up and got a hold of Bear. RJ then showed Bear in the market class. The Judge just grinned at RJ as he came out of the box and told him now this is the sheep I know and everyone just laughed. RJ even tried for Showmanship with Bear. He didn't win but we all had fun. RJ seemed to have the best time of all and the best news ever .... Bear will live to show again. First let me say that our County is proud to be a no kill show and at the end of the show a lady asked RJ what he planned to do with Bear now that the show was over. RJ told her that he would return him to the sale barn where he got him. She offered to buy Bear for another child to show at the Spring Livestock show in 2012. RJ called the Man who gave Bear to him and explained the offer. The man agreed and Bear gets to live on as someone elses FFA Lamb.
