Scary Day ... and I am not talking Halloween here ...

10/8/2012

Well, I know I said yesterday that I wasn't going to have to back up and that I was caught up with all the news but after I posted that I went to rope.  Nothing new there.  The part I have to back up to is that I was more scared last night then I ever have been in my whole life.  You see Mom and Dad have been fussing about how Dad isn't 20 years old anymore.  Dad thinks he is and can still do everything he did back then.  I have told him several times that Coop is to much horse for him but he won't listen.  Mom has been heard asking Dad "You aren't 20 anymore!  What are you trying to do, make me a widow before my time?"
Okay I have to admit I have no idea what that means but I get her point and last night I think Dad might have too.  You see we were roping and Dad being an expert horseman didn't think his horse needed warmed up.  After about the 6th Run Coop bucked and she buck hard.  Dad was thrown and hit really hard.  When I got to him he was just laying there looking up, shivering and jerking around.  I really thought he was having some kind of seizer.  My phone was at the roping chutes so I tried to get Dad's from his pocket but he kept fighting me.  Finally I got it and called Mom.  She got there as fast as she could but it seemed like forever.  By the time she got there Dad was talking to me.
Turns out he got the wind knocked out of him pretty bad.  We got Dad up and Mom ended our day in the roping chutes.  She sent Dad to unsaddle his horse.  Then we took the wraps off the steers and did chores.
Back at the house I hate to say this but Mom Lit Dad up.  She told him that if he didn't want to admit he was getting older that was fine but it happens to everyone and it doesn't excuse him from setting a good example for Me.  She said that from now on Dad is to warm that horse up no matter what.  The fact is that Dad short cutted because it was cold out and at his age he didn't want to take the time to ride in the cold.  And for that he got hurt.  Mom says it is because Dad thinks he can handle the horse if she bucks but she also says he is getting to old to be doing it.  Sadly the truth is he can't handle her and even I can see that.
Anyway, for those few minutes That Dad laid there, I was realy scared and praying as hard as I could for God to not let Dad be hurt.  God answered my prayers.  Today however Dad is very sore and we have been taking it kind of easy.  I know that the cooler days make animals feel better and act up but I think Dad should have known that too.  Growing older can't be all that easy but why can't Dad do like Mom does and just admit it.  She tells me all the time that I have to do things cause I am an "young whipper-snapper and she is an old fart" and that she can't do what she used to .... LOL
Anyway, today was kind of easy going.  Dad drove the tractor and worked the pond and I messed around doing just a little of this and a little of that.  Mom worked this morning and then came home and tried to mail everything out but didn't get it done because today is Columbus Day and the post office is closed.  After that she just went to cleaning ... Dad is kissing up to her but she is still giving him the evil eye ... LOL

I'm glad your dad is ok. That had to be really scary!

It's pretty hard to acknowledge that you can't do what you used to do, so I understand how your Dad is feeling. But maybe seeing how scared you got will have more effect than your Mom fussing at him, which doesn't seem to have done much to date. (Of course, I'm the one doing the fussing here, so I get where she's coming from, too.) I'm really glad he's ok.

Wow that was scarey! I'm so glad your Dad is only sore. The saying is "Getting old is not for sissies." That is true in so many ways....

I can hear you mom giving your dad what for! Lol Just as if I were there, too, so that's a sure sign I've been around your family a while! Tell your dad to behave himself and I hope he gets to feeling better. He should be able to sit down properly again as soon as his backside grown back from your mom chewing it out!
It can be really scary to see a parent get hurt like that. I've been there and it's hard to watch when there's so little you can do to help. You did what you could - pray! And God answered those prayers.

I'm so glad your dad is OK, I'm glad you were there with him to help him when it happened. It must have been very scary for everyone!
