Quiet Day Kind of ...

2/28/2013

So today there really isn't much to blog about.  My days for the most part is full of feeding, weighings and barnyard checks.  We are slowly getting Cheyenne on the 9 and 3 schedule so that is helping.  I know it doesn't sound like such a big deal but it allows Mom and I both to get one 6 hour stretch of sleep.  Up until now Mom was staying up to handle the 11pm feeding and then getting up with Dad at 2:30am.  I will admit to the fact that I have now started having trouble getting up at 3am so Dad is picking up some of the slack.  Okay, I am not really having trouble it is the fact that I just don't wake up at all when Dad comes in to get me....
Anyway, I haven't left the house in days until tonight when we all went to eat with Ms. Karen.  I had fun but now back to the routine.  One little up date though ... Sage's Milk finally dropped on one side.  The only issue is that she will no longer take Cheyenne.  So we are still bottle feeding Cheyenne.  On the other hand I tried to milk a bit of Colostrum from her to put in the freezer to have on hand just in case we need it.  (Do you know how hard sheep are to milk?)  Well, I will try to get more from her tomorrow but as of right now she is still only drinking a little bit of water and not near enough to help her produce the milk needed to raise a baby.
With all that said I think everyone needs to see Mom's way of taking care of things around here... Cheyenne thinks she is some kind of Mountain sheep and can climb anything!!

Don's advice: build a pen about 5' long and 2-3' wide with a hole in front for the ewe's head and something to keep her head in place (he said there are directions for this on the internet). When she is locked in place put the lamb in and let it nurse. He said it can be any ewe. Doesn't have to be Cheyenne's mom.

The problem isn't with the Ewe at this point ... Cheyenne won't latch on because she has now never nursed that way. She will only latch on to the bottle.
