Parent Question

12/1/2011

Most everyone knows what happened last night but in case you missed it one of my friends was a missing person from 2:15pm until around 7:30 or so.  Turns out he got in trouble at school and thought he was going to get in trouble at home too.  He didn't want to go home so he just didn't and no one could find him.  He was later found at the school safe and sound.  I want to talk to Rocky and make sure he is really alright.  I tried texting him but didn't get any answer.  I know his parents probably took him phone away but that doesn't stop me from wanting to check on him and be there for him.  I tried messaging this one lady that said she was friends with his Mom but she won't answer me either.  My question is this ... How can I stop worrying when no one will let me talk to him.  I know he is in trouble and I know what he did was wrong and I know it affects others but I am one of the others and I am affected too.  Since I don't attend school with him I can't see him at school like everyone else.  How am I suppose to be there for him as a friend (and let him know what he did was not cool) if no one will let me talk to him and I can't see him at school?

Snail mail? It only takes 24 hours to deliver a letter if you live relatively close. That's the best I've got. I'm so glad Rocky has been found!

That's a really tough situation, though thankfully not as bad as it could have been if he was hurt or in danger.

Do you have his parents' phone number? I expect that you are right that he has had his phone taken away from him as punishment, and may also be grounded, so it might be best to try to contact his parents and express your concern to them. Could you ask your mom to call his mom, or talk to someone at the school about getting them a message?

You can't really stop worrying about him whether you talk to him or not. The concern you feel is a credit to you and just like worrying about Star and Angel those feelings are there because you are who you are and make the person you will ultimately become. You will be able to talk to your friend soon, then you will be reassured a little bit that he is ok but the concern you feel for him and the world around you is something you are going to have to live with. It is hard and it never really gets easier no matter how old you get but keep worrying for your friends and for your animal friends, your love will always be a help to them.

RJ,

I'll agree with others that as a punishment, your friend likely has had his phone taken. I also agree that if your mom nows his mom, perhaps she could ask if you may speak to Rocky. Worst case, his mom will say no, in which case, I'd go the suggested snail-mail route. Handwritten letters have such a great impact because they're very personal. Your concern would be evident not only in your words, but in the act of taking the time to write.

My Mom doesn't have Rocky's Mom's number as they really aren't friends. My Mom doesn't really fit in with the Rodeo Mom Clique. Anyway, I have decided to text him every night just like I always do. I know why he won't answer but when he does I will be there for him.
