Normal Day for me ...

10/16/2012

So today started like every other day.  School work came first of coarse.  Then Mom and I got to work setting the new corner posts for the extention on the Goat shed.  For those of you who don't know the whole story about a year and a half ago I won my first flock of Angora goats that started my fiber farm.  Dad wasn't happy about it at the time so he only gave me a small pen and helped me build this small shed for them.

Well, since that time our herd/flock has changed quit a bit.  Now this is not only the goats winter pen but we put any sheep we don't want bred and the male alpacas in it.  As you can guess the male alpacas don't really fit in this short shed.  So Mom and I set out to fix that.
We started by setting two new posts to extend half of the shed out to about 6 ft tall.  Right now it just looks like this but soon it will have a roof and two more sides....

After setting the posts Mom did the weedeating around the house.  She is trying to get the yard all trimmed and clipped so that we can get the lawnmower, weedeater and tiller put up for the winter.
This afternoon we took Jethro to see our friendly Vet.  He is not only or Vet but he is the one that did Penny's surgery and saved her life.  Anyway, Jethro just went for x-rays.  Why, well for those of you who don't know or remember This is Rebel ...

Rebel was Mom's Rescue Dog and he was with her for many years.... In the end he had to be put down because he could no longer walk and his back legs were paralysed.  He suffered from Hip Dysplasia which led to complications with his back legs.
Mom has been worried about Jethro.  One thing, besides genetics, that can lead to joint problems is if they grow to fast and they don't get enough Vitamins and minerals to keep up with their own bodies.  Or if the socket and ball grow at different rates.  There is a study that is started when a dog is one year old and then another at two years old but Mom says she didn't want to wait that long to find out if she was going to have to go through that again.  So she took Jethro in to have his Hips checked through an x-ray.  The great news is that Jethro's hips are growing evenly and everything looks good.  Doc did put him on Vitamins and an extra suppliment but that is just as a precaution.
When we got home Dad and I rode and then did chores before I headed in to eat dinner and pack.  For the record I will be leaving tomorrow afternoon and I will  be gone until Friday afternoon.  I will be attending 4-H Youth in Action Conference.  By daytime we will be doing worth while things like putting together Smile Packs for Operation Military Kids or attending leadership building skills workshops.  By night we will have carnivals and Dances.  It should be alot of fun.
