No Diablo yet

8/23/2012

Well, today didn't go as planned.  We were up and at it like normal but we worked around the house waiting for, Diablo, the horse to get here.  When the lady called she said she couldn't get here until after it was time for Mom to go to work.  She acted like she was just going to drive up and kick the horse out and leave.  Mom said no way.  She asked if the lady had his paperwork and was told that she just had a health certificate.  Mom was shocked.  She is now questioning if this is a real horse rescue or a bunch of idiots just saying they are a rescue.  (Her words not mine.)  Mom tried checking them out online but their web page hasn't been updated in about a year as far as she can tell.
You see, My Mom has been in the rescue game a long time and everyone knows that if you have animals on your land in the State of Oklahome you better have one of two things.  A Bill of sale or a Contract.  Everyone also knows that In the State of Oklahoma there is an old law still on the books and it makes livestock rustling a hanging offence.  Now, anybody who has lived here all their lives makes jokes about that law and we all know they don't hang people anymore.  But it just goes to show that we take our livestock very seriously here in this state.  The State of Oklahoma also allows someone to sell a rogue animal that has stayed on their land for over 30 days to pay the feed, shelter and water bills for that animal.  And you do not have to notify the owner as long as the owner has been notified the animal is on your propery.
So with all the laws to protect the home owner and the animal why would a rescue just send a horse with someone else to drop off at a place they have never been with someone she has never met?  And with no contract or anything why would a real rescue not have something in place so that they don't lose the rights to the horse?  Mom says something isn't right here and if the lady ever calls her again she is going to get to the bottem of this.  See, another thing is that Mom only has the number to the lady bringing the horse not the rescue or the manager/owner of the rescue.  Pretty Fishy huh??
As for me I just was excited to get a new horse to work with when Mom wasn't working with it.  But hey, I guess God will work it all out and if I have a new horse to play with fine,  if not oh well.

here's the link for Alder Hill, which is in Missouri:
http://alderhillfarm.org/contact.html

There is no "Diablo" listed in any of their "our horses" listings. I think your mom should contact them and find out if this lady is on the up and up, or if she's scamming you using their name.

Good luck- I hope Diablo ends up safe with you!
