Longest day ever ... again ...

8/20/2012

I think we are trying hard to have all kinds of long days ... and busy days .... What is next long busy days???  Oh we already have that ... LOL
Anyway, when Mom got off work yesterday, We headed down to Walnut Creek Aplacas for the last scheduled time.  This time it was to bring home Wendi and Jorden.  Everything went really well.  When we got home we put Wendi and Jorden in the east pen to give them time to get used to everything.  Wendi was so scared last night that we had to halter her to get her in the stall.  After getting them both settled, we headed straight to bed.  I have to tell you Mom is a real trooper.  She drove all the way home while Dad and I slept.  Then this morning who do you think was the first one up?  Yup Mom!  After chores she made waffles too but that is beside the point.
Ok, back to the story... This morning we did chores and then tried to put Wendi and Jorden out on the pasture with the others.  We ended up having to put all the Alpacas in the East pen until they get used to each other and Jorden gets used to EVERYTHING.  You see it is like this.  We were told that Wendi is calmer then Hope.  Well, under normal circumstances that might be true but with the trains coming through every 30 minutes and Jorden running like a wild man through the pasture it is enough to make any Mother nuts.  So in the best interest of all we put all the alpacas in the east pen for the next few days.  When they all get relaxed we will try to put them out on the pasture again.
So what went wrong??  Well, it didn't go wrong as much as we just didn't realise one little thing.  We planned for everything but one little, teeny, tiny issue.  JORDEN!  He is into everything.  When we let him in the pasture the sheep instantly became a source of amusement to him.  They are all his personal fuzzy chasing thingies... LOL  What made it worse was he chased the chickens and ducks too.  Well, we didn't want him to get hurt and if he tried to chase the Cotwold ... They are bigger then he is ... He would get hurt and then Wendi would step in and if they hit her she might get into trouble with her pregnancy. In the end we decided it was best to give them a few days in the smaller pen.
To see it happening was scary and funny all at the same time.... Picture this.  Sheep running, followed by Jorden, who is followed by Wendi,  Who is being followed by Hope, Charlie and Juneau because they want to meet her.  All running around like wild animals while Jethro the pup barks because he thinks they are playing.  Then add in Me and Mom trying to stop the whole thing from happening.  Funny picture huh???  It was funny I am sure.  In the end we caught and carried Jorden back to the East pen and all the Alpacas just kept right on following.  The sheep however ran the other way in as many other directions as they could ... I wonder why??  I even had battle wounds ...

All the while Mom was trying to get some pictures but Mom says it was hard to get clear pictures of the chase but here is Jorden chasing Pistol with Wendi right behind and Juneau and Charlie are close behind.... LOL

Mom really wanted a picture of Jorden nursing.  I don't know why. The truth is that we didn't get to see him nurse but for an instant after we got the alpacas back in the East lot So here is the only picture of Jorden nursing so far.

Mom tried to get a picture of me with them to show you how small they are.  I am just over 5ft now ...

Aren't they just the cutest things?

Check it out ... their first Family photo ... And our foundation herd!!  I can't help but look at all the color and think we have it all covered.  Is there a color we don't have??  Well, okay Charlie the Black one is Gelded but hey we still have his fleece for color for awhile ... LOL... I guess a true white as well but hey, we can't have it all ... not yet anyway...

Okay, I do have to clear up one little thing with everyone.  No, those names are not typos. The last two Alpacas to come home are registered as Wendi with an "I" and Jorden with a "E" You see I am not Creative with the names and I wanted the little guy to be named Jordan.  Well, Ms. Karen and Dave explained that even though Jordan was taken in the registry That we might do something like they did with Wendi and just change one letter and that name might be available.  Well, when most people register an animal if it is from a big herd the Breeder will put his flock ID before the name and that makes it that breeders form of that name ... EX Karen puts WCR before each name and that makes them Walnut Creek Ranch  Wendy or Walnut Creek Ranch Jordan ... But I am just starting and I don't know if I want to use RJ Wendy or QT Wendy or maybe I will use RJQT Wendy.  Juneau is really WCR Juneau.  Well, as you can see I need to think about a few things and get it all worked out.  For now our foundation herd will only have one name each except Hope who is registered Sweet Hope but that wasn't our doings she came with that name.  We will be calling her Hope.    So that mean we have the following:
    WCR Juneau
    Sweet Hope
    Charlie - who isn't registered
    Wendi
    Jorden

And just so you know I have 1 month to figure it all out ... Hope is Due the 19th of Sept.
