Fair days continue ...

9/14/2012

Well, remember those two other awards that I had to wait for the results to post on???  Well, when the scores posted for showmanship there was only a difference of one point between me and kid I lost to last year.  He is older then me and he doesn't work with his bird as much but he knows all the things that the judge asks about.  So this year he learned if he wants to beat me he has to work with is bird as well.... You Guessed it I won!  Not by much and I am going to be extra sharp next year.  Check out my trophy!

That brings my total number of Trophies won so far at this years fair to 7.
As for the herdsman award ... It is an award for keeping your area cleaned up with nothing around that people can trip over and nothing on top of your cage and you have to keep the floor swept, birds fed and watered and help  your neighbor do the same.  Anyway, Everyone did great the day of the show but no one cleaned today but me and the young man who won Jr. Herdsman award.  I guess it pays off to keep things nice and neat.

I did manage to get a few moments of rest with the birds today ... LOL ... Check out the chickens on my feet.  Yes they just sit there.  The Rooster is Red my showmanship winning rooster.  The other was just one of the kids hens that took up with Red.  (I think she went to the fair to find herself a boyfriend)  They are very tame and so are the birds that belong to most the other kids showing them.  That is what makes the fair so much fun.  Most birds are not so tame but show birds make great pets....

Here is a picture of a kid with his bird laying on it's back on the kids head.  I taught him to put the bird to sleep as we call it and they all got a kick out of seeing who could have them sleep the longest and where ... LOL

I am telling you, we can do all kinds of things with our chickens... That is why we think they are so much fun.  I even taught everyone how to hypnotise their birds and how to rock them to sleep.  We then use our tricks to add interest to the poultry exhibit for the school kids that come through each year.  I did laugh at one of the younger kids helping out today.  One of the teachers asked how he learned to do all these things with his bird and he just looked at her and said "From RJ of course." I have to be honest ... I never thought I would be making kids happy showing them poultry tricks so they can show them to others but for some reason at that moment I was proud of it.  I know it is really weird to be proud of something so silly but hey you take what you get... LOL
Anyway, with the poultry and rabbit shows over with and the birds and Coco Puff home it is now time to consintrate on the sheep show. It is my last event with livestock and it is tomorrow. When I get home I will also post how my other items that I entered placed.

I had no idea that chickens were so trainable! You've taught me something tonight for sure. I absolutely love those chicken pictures!

Great pictures, I love the one with the chickens perched on your feet! I didn't know chickens could be trained to go to sleep like the one on the boy's head, that's amazing. Well done with all your trophies!
