Anyway, the day went on, in my opinion, uneventful. Other then I didn't really rope my best today it was nothing special. Don't get me wrong I had alot of fun and a really great time. Mom and Dad got off about 5 and came early to see what was going on.
When they got there they were approached by a couple of different people with Stories about me. I really didn't do anything special but one Guy told Mom that I was by far the most polite kid he had ever met. He said I roped and acted with the maturity of a 30 year old. He meant it as a compliment but I don't want to be like a 30 year old do I??? Mom says I did just fine and that I can be a kid but she was proud to know that I minded my manners and acted like the man I want to be. That made me feel proud only because Mom was proud of me. I don't see what those other people see but if they took the time to tell Mom what a "good kid" I was I must be doing something right.
Then at the award ceremony I was awarded the outstanding serviceman award. I had no idea why ... I did try to help everyone but then Mom was appoached by a woman who asked if I had told her about today. Mom said no that we hadn't gotten a chance to talk yet. The lady told Mom why She thought I deserved the award. I remember the event she told Mom about but I don't remember it the way they do.
You see there was a loose horse that came up to a friend of mine while I was putting the reins on my horse. I got them on and He grabbed the other horse. About the time my friend yelled asking who horse he had, a girls Mom freaked out and said her daughter was last seen on that horse. I stepped up on Ice and we took off in the direction that the horse had come. All I remember thinking is that I would not be able to have any fun if anyone got hurt at camp. I was the first to find her but as it turned out she was fine. The horse just walked off when she turned her back to fix a stirrups. I yelled out that she was fine and had her step out into the alleyway. Then I headed up and got her horse and brought it back to her.
The Mother saw it a bit different. She made it sound like I had done something special. I didn't save her daughter or anything. I just made her show her Mom she was okay. And yes I did it faster then anyone else, only because I knew what way the horse came from. Again I think it is all in the perception of the event. I did get a really cool new pocket knife as an award though. Check this out ...
