Confusion ...

5/5/2013

Okay, I know that it seems like everything on this farm revolves around me.  (I know in my Parents hearts it really does)  At times I just can't find a way to tell the story from any other point of view and make it sound right.  The truth is that all the baby bottle babies that come to our farm, that were not born from my Sheep, Goats or Alpaca are NOT mine.  Just because I started the fiber farm doesn't mean that Mom gave up the bottle farm.  She even has a web page here on my page.  Check out the "Bottle Baby Farm" button on the banner.
I know that not everyone has followed from the beginning but If you have you might remember that Mom runs a baby bottle farm and I entered the contest to win my herd so that I would have something that didn't go the sale barn or someone's dinner plate.  Well, while alot has changed for me since I won my flock, somethings have not.  Mom still runs that baby bottle farm.  Yes, I get to play and feed all the baby animals and I love it.  I still go with Mom on calf runs and rescues. and we still spend the night in the barn when we need to.   However, while it all makes for a great reading farm blog the truth is none of that has anything to do with the fiber farm or the shares.  Those animals belong to my Mom and Dad's Farm.  Some are on programs and never really "belong" to us at all.  What I am getting at is that on the blog I know that the two farms run together, but they do not run together in real life.
So why am I bringing this up now?  Well, there seems to be some confusion about the issue of the Chocolate Merino Ewe that Mom is buying Monday.  First, I want to say that I gave my followers on Plurk and twitter a chance to express interest in the lamb before I passed it by.  Not one person said they would be interested in her fleece or even shares or yarn made from her fleece.  As a matter of fact the only feedback I did get was all Negative.  The fleece was to greasy, fussy, slick ... ect.
Well, for a year and a half Mom has spoke of getting a few head of Merino just because she wants them.  I happen to know that she also plans on showing Hersey, the new Ewe she is getting at the county Fair this fall as breeding stock.  The problem is that now some followers are getting ahold of me, telling me to "tell" Mom they want Fleece or Roving from the little ewe.  I really don't know how to tell you guys this but that is between Mom and all of you that want the fleece.  She hasn't disussed this Ewe with me because it isn't part of my Fiber Farm.  It is her's and she doesn't have to tell me what her plan is.  I know sometimes it doesn't seem like it but I am the kid and she is the parent.  She is pretty much allowed to do whatever she wants with her own lamb.  As a matter of fact this is the first thing on this farm that Mom owns that she is getting for her besides Angel and Jethro.    Dad owns the cattle and we use them to rope.  And as Most of you know I am using Angel from my 4-H project and Jethro was gotten to protect the flock but I wasn't really in love with him when she brought him home.  So to put it bluntly Mom owns a rescue horse that I use and a Dog that I didn't want then but now I do.  It doesn't mean that she doesn't LOVE all the animals on the farm but it does mean she doesn't OWN them.
Hersey is MOM'S first anything since Rebel died that she has gotten for herself.  Please let's try to remember that and please respect her as the owner and not put Hersey into MY fiber farm.  Yes, you will get to follow her because the little lamb will be a part of my life too, but that is as far as it will go unless she has any fleece she wants to sell.  If that happens I will make sure that she knows she can sell it here on my page and then and only then will you all get a chance to buy it.  So Please understand that this little one belongs to MOM.  We had our chance and didn't speak up or take it.

I'm surprised no one wanted a share of merino. I didn't see the offer and might have taken you up on it, depending on the price. Not that I need it, you understand. LOL

The Wendie alpaca that I got from you inspired me to find more brown fleece, and because our Plurk friends are so generous, I'm getting two complete brown alpaca fleeces for the cost of shipping.

Anyway, I'll watch to see if your mom decides to sell any of the merino when it's time.

hmmm. i get what your saying, but from my point of view, it was the easiest way to get the information to your mom. i would hope you would have passed on the info, ie., hey, vtknitboy is interested in a bit of the fleece, should you end up selling any to recoup some costs." it was only with excitement that i asked. and, my feedback about the fleece being greasy and fussy wasn't negative--it was to offer some perspective from someone (me) who has spun a LOT of it, including washing LBS of it from scratch, carding and spinning. the feedback was offered in a way to help your mom, in case she wasn't familiar with the specific properties of merino. taking it as negative is perspective! :-)

No worries ... It wasn't just you and I did pass it on but some seem to have a hard time figuring out where the two farms start and end and I was just trying to clear things up ...
