Will someone please explain to me how come I have to follow Mom's horse training guild she laid down for Dad? You see it all started with Dad and him getting angry with his horse. Just in case anyone didn't know ... Mom has a temper about how people treat animals. Dad lashed out and Mom come U.N.G.L.U.E.D.
Okay in all fairness, Dad doesn't work or train his horse at all. He just jumps on her and wants her to understand what he wants and he wants it perfect everytime. That is not what a horse needs or understands but it is the way Dad grew up training horses. His Father tells stories about the old days and admits they "killed more good horses then I will ever own." (his words not mine) The truth is that they would saddle them and let them buck until their spirit is pretty much broke as well. At that point if they haven't broke their own neck rolling to get the saddle off, they are ready to submit and admit defeat. Indians used to do this process in a pond or River so that the horse didn't get hurt but white man did it where they caught the horse.
Well, Neither Indian or white man's way is Mom's way. She is a, work together to get the job done, kind of gal. She wants the horse to want to please her because the horse wants to not because they are scared of her. It is a kind of like horse whispering if you ask Dad. Mom wants the horse to think of her as pleasure and want to please her on it's own because of it.
So what does it mean when Mom comes unglued? Well, If Dad values his horse at all, he will do it Mom's way when he is told to. (Mom only butts in when Dad is out of control so it doesn't happen all the time) What everyone doesn't know is that technecally Mom owns all the horses on the farm because she bought all of them but Storm and Sedan. And trust me, Dad and I can't even ride them let alone rope off them. Although Ice was a gift to me Mom has a clause that until I am 18 I have to follow her rules about caring for him. I know it sounds weird but she did teach me to break him the Gentle way, so I am sure she just wants to make sure I provide the best care possible for him.
As for right now Mom has got both Dad and I on a back to basics horsemanship building schedule. She even said that if we didn't follow it we couldn't rope this weekend at our Rodeo. Now will someone please explain to me why I have to do this schedule too?? What did I do?? I am not as rough on my horse as Dad is. Ice is a bit hyper and that is one thing Mom is making us fix but I didn't make him that way I just didn't correct him when he did it by himself.... There is a difference you know ... LOL
