Calling the Fleece Police

4/17/2013

Today I spent most the day with Mom and the shelter.  Mom has some construction going on and I helped move, clean and redo some puppy pens for her.  So since I really didn't have alot of time to think about a post I am going to work on doing what I am going to call Fleece Police posts.  When ever you see that heading you will know that I am blogging about one of the types of fleece we have here on the farm.  Tonight we will cover Charlie Fleece.  Please remember that we are also learning to use the new camera so I will get the best pictures I can but I make no promises.  So here we go.
Tonight I am taking a closer look at the Cotswold/OE Southdown Babydoll crosses.  That is the Quads and the Triplets that go by the Charlie Brown Character names.  For our Fleece Police issue we are using Charlie ... This is him! ... Doesn't he look like his Dad in that picture?
Picture
His fleece reminds me of the Southdown Baby dolls in so many ways but one difference is how fast it is growing.  Charlie was born the middle of Feb.  and now it is already up to my knuckle.  When he walks you can see his fleece part and it looks so cool.

One way it reminds me of Cotswold fleece is the crimp.  I am not an expert at this but Mom and I tried to get a good shot of the fleece but no matter how hard we tried this is the clearest picture we could get and it really doesn't show the crimp very well.

All that said this Fleece has alot of Down like properties.  The one thing that is so great about this fleece that I have no way to show in a picture is how soft it really is.  Honestly it is like touching Air. Is there such a thing as to much softness in a Fleece?  So what are your thoughts??

Beautiful! I can see the crimp very clearly. I can remember the picture when you were sitting holding Charlie's dad just like that, that was the day you collected him.

Thank you for noticing ... That photo was done because of the photo of Chief that was taken that day. It is amazing to me that people (besides Mom) remember such things...

Such a beautiful coat. They all seem so friendly, like dogs! I have never been around them, but sure would like some!
