Good Evening I want you to know that my Blogging for RJ tonight is just as much a surprize to me as it is to you. Tonight however RJ is at his 4-H lock in but I guess he had something to say that he thinks can't wait.
This is how his day went. First he told me about his late night inspiration. I love that he wants to help Billy. Billy is like a older version of RJ. They both spend more time thinking of others then they do themselves anymore. We talked for a bit and we did some brain storming but I told him It might not work out the way he hoped so not to be disappointed if it didn't. He just said "we will see ... anything is better then nothing." I too have been thinking of what I can do to help Billy but that is another story I will tell in a minute. It was part of the conversation but not the important part I think RJ wants told. Anyway, I worked this morning while RJ did his school work. Then the Farrier came and Ice, Coop, Angel and Jazz-Man all got their hooves trimmed up. Jazz-man wouldn't let the Farrier file his but at least they are trimmed. It is a start and since he has never had any hoof care done in his life I would say that it was a great start. Before RJ left for his lock in (he was riding with Billy ... No surprize there) Billy took time to show RJ how to band the sheeps tails.
RJ also gave Billy the first two crosses he made. One for Billy and one for his Mom. Billy loved it. Then they packed up their stuff for their workshops for the lock in and headed out. What happened next was wierd. RJ and I started Texting back and forth. It went like this:
RJ: blog me
Me: ?
RJ: 4
Me: blog for you?
RJ: ya
Me: about what?
RJ: day n talk about
Me: your day and about billy?
RJ: ya
Me: is that all?
RJ: no B only need 1500
Me: for college?
RJ: ya post cross will call soon
So I put on dinner and started typing. When he called he told me that Billy got a letter from the College and they are going to help with a couple of small scholarships. Billy is a straight A student so it is good to see him rewarded with the help. RJ also told me that there is some kind of Cancer fund helping him too. He found out a couple of days ago. RJ said that Billy now has alot of things covered for his first semester of college. With the college help, the cancer fund and what he got for his lambs he just has to come up with about $1500.00. That will also give him another semester to work on funding his second. The college said that if he keeps his grades up there are some other funds that will help but he missed the deadlines for Freshmen to apply by not knowing about them.
RJ is now even more determined to help ease Billy's mind so he has decided that to make the scholarship fund worth while. He will be adding something to the pot. He said for anything under a $50.00 donation you will receive a little leather cross and anything over $50.00 you will receive a handmade Rope Cross.
As for Me I talked to Billy today after his Mom and him had time to talk about my offer. Billy told me that he didn't feel right taking money from me when he was willing to do it for free because he loved the animals and RJ. When I explained so that he understood that one way or another I had to pay someone so why not him? When I was done talking to him, he said that he could use the money for college and he would except our offer. You see I came up with a little way to help too. This year will be our first lambing season. I have to admit that I know nothing about birthing anything but puppies and kittens. I called the vet and spoke with him just to see what I needed to do and I was told that for each service call I would be charged $100.00 service charge and since lambs and goats don't all kid and lamb at the same time that might get a bit costly for us. Well, this isn't Billy's first time and he is an old hand so I hired Billy, with his Mother's permission, to be on Call for RJ. He is being paid a retainer much lower then the vet would charge and he is being paid per a call if he has to come to the house for anything. It isn't much but every little bit helps when a kid li
