Bedtime excitement

12/14/2011

Okay, so today was quiet for the most part.  I had schoolwork and chores and the normal stuff.  That is until I went to get ready for bed.  Like all growing boys I grabbed a snack and put a movie on in my room.  To bad I set the snack down while I did that because Buddy, My 14 yr old Manchester Terrier, ate it.  It really wouldn't have been a big deal except it was one of the Peanut Butter bars we made on Monday.  They are great but they have a chocolate top on them.
Mom looked for her Ipecac but we were out.  Mom called the vet and he said to make him throw up by putting salt in the back of his throat.  All that got Mom was bit.  Buddy is old and grumpy as it is and he hates to be messed with but Mom didn't stop.  She called Ms. Karen.  She didn't have any Ipecac either but she was fast on her toes and found out that hydrogen peroxide will make a dog throw up.
The first time Mom tried to get it down Buddy it didn't really go so well and she only got about half in him.  She attemped again and it was a success.  I walked Buddy outside and within minutes he was throwing it all up.  Mom Cleaned up the mess in the yard and I took Buddy inside.  For the record you give 5cc per 10 lbs of Dog.  We are watching him close but I learned not to leave my snacks for even a minute ...

Next time mix the peroxide with some chicken or beef broth and the animal will drink it right up no fuss. Easy peasy. ;)

Layla got into mouse poison at my parents house. Very little but we just didn't know and that stuff is BAD NEWS. We called the emergency vet and they said hydrogen peroxide too. It certainly does not take much. Poor Layla, she was so happy to go outside and moments later up it all came! (And she was fine though our vet kept an eye on her vitamen K. Mouse poison contains an ingredient that takes away the bloods ability to clot. A horrible way to die! AND a mouse who has eaten the poison is even deadly to a kitty or dog who may catch it.)

Thank you guys for not making me feel worse then I did when it happened. Anna my Mom won't let us bring any rat baits on the place. She says she would rather have the cats then any poisons on the farm...
