What a day. We got the tractor running again and just in time for haying season. We took it for a test drive by clearing Mom's orchard. And we even found peaches on the tree the bull broke last year. I did take time to saddle Sedan up for the first time. We don't know what he can do but he took the saddle like a champ. After we saddled him we turned him out to graze for a bit. Sedan really likes the green grass. Look Jethro found some one his own size. Sedan is 9 hands (35 inches that is) and 350lb . Now you know why the stirrups on the saddle almost touch the ground . Storm even got in on the grass while mom sprayed the lot. (We are spraying it because that is the goat breeding pen ... Can't have weeds there come fall)
Today was nothing special. I am tired from camp this week and when I got home I had to pick up where I left off with chores so I haven't caught up on my sleep yet. I was back at work and that wore me out even more. When I got home Mom was still at work so Dad Tomorrow I am going to sleep in a bit and then we have to start getting everything ready for haying season. The tractor, rake, baler and sickle all need to be serviced and prepared ....
I feel so behind. I was gone Tuesday, Wednesday and part of Thursday. Then last night I went to put up a video and couldn't get the blog to act right. I still don't have the video I want up but I did manage to get some video of B'Day's Baby. B'Day is turning into a great Mom and she talks to him all the time. I never thought of a cows mow as loving but listen to her's in the video and you will see what I mean. I have let Mom name him and the name really fits. I give you Brutus ... Did you see the hen with the chick on it's back at the end ... Mom thought it was funny and tried thinking of a name like a opossum Chick.... I know I am tired but really it wasn't funny.
Anyway, Tonight I am going to do the drawing for the two skeins of yarn for those that donated to get my fees paid to get me to Regionals. First off Thank you all So much as I raised most of the money I needed to cover entry fees, Stall fees and hotel. Mom said that she will figure out a way to take care of the rest. So with that The winner is .... Oh I forgot to tell you Mom has joined the Tour De Fleece. She is only on the Rookie team and really doesn't know what she it doing but she said she will spin and post pictures and if there is more to it then that she will learn the hard way ... Her and two of her friends are doing it. I think next year if I get 100 people in the Ravelry group I am going to have a team and give away prizes ... I figure if I want it to be successful I better start planning now ... All of you can help out but helping me get 100 people in the group... LOL Now where was I??? Oh sorry about that ... the winner ... 5 Okay so who is 5?? I think it is my Blues Buddy ... Ms. Heaven's Joy will you please drop me an email at rj@barnontheweb.com and claim your 800 yards of the most softest Mohair/wool yarn you have ever had??? If not claimed by next Saturday .... I will draw again .... So everyone get on it and get her to read the blog ... LOL For those that didn't win I took some cute pictures today ... Oh and the alpaca women are out in the pasture now. So that means everything will be out in the pasture until I remove the men in late fall... Well, as most of you know RJ is gone to Camp. Around here that means something has to happen and like everyother time in my life ... It has ... B'Day,RJ's tame cow had her baby. I came home at lunch to check her and I got to get him up and get him to suckle and then I headed back to work ... Check it out ... He looks just like B'Day when she was little ... (Sorry for the phone Pictures but I was on company time)
Well, today we worked on the list of things that we need to get done and as we get things done more things pop up. First, Mom got this done... That is the Cotswold sample for the display in the booth. Mom likes how it came out. Then she went out and spayed the other side of the house for weeds and moved her Golden Rain Tree so that the Goats and Sheep won't be able to get it when we get the rest of the yard fenced. When the mail came I loved it. First up, Lot finally made it home. And just in time to make the trips to Branson and Louisiana. We also got the hooks today ... You know the ones for the gridwall display for my booth ... They are 6 inch hooks so they should hold a few skeins of yarn at least... Then I got something very special in the mail. This hand made card with a personal note and a little something extra was my favorite piece of mail today. I can't believe the time and personal touch that went into that card. I love it. The lady that sent it knows who she is and I am sure she will read this so I I want to let her know I love the card and Thank you for everything. Lots of Love and Blessing go out to her and her husband... So this list is now done but there is so much still to do...

We plan on stopping off at a yarn shop on the way in Springfield Mo. If there is anyone in that area we can set up a meet and greet on July 14th, 2013. After Branson we have Kellyville fiber festival and right after that I will be headed to Louisiana. Man, Summer is so busy. Speaking of Busy, did I mention that tomorrow I leave for Multi-County 4-H Camp? I am going to be a camp counsiler. I will be back Thursday afternoon. Any bets on whether or not the cows calf out while I am gone. Oh, and when I get back we will doing the drawing for those that entered to help me get to Regionals... Can we turn down the wind??? The wind made much of anything I needed to get done around here impossible. Dad and I did help the neighbor take a tractor tire off ... As you all know those tires are big and hard to handle. Anyway, The only other thing that got done was Mom got Squirt, the turtle, a larger pond ... Squirt really seems to like it and Mom loves watching him...
So today thing were kind of back to normal. I worked and Mom manned my booth at the Farmer's Market but that just isn't something I think I will be doing again. I did take the time to get the tires back on the one horse trailer so that Mom and I will be able to get it to the trailer Place so that Mr. Miller of Miller Time Manufacturing can help me get it in working order for the trip to Louisiana. Mom finished spinning up the Cotswold sample and as soon as it dries she will knit and Crochet a swatch for the booth. After that I did the normal stuff ... Chores and moving hay around and getting things put up for the fiber booth...Tonight though I really want to get the cria named ... We haven't had any really great name ideas. At this rate the little guy will end up being named something like Onion Top ... So please post your ideas in the comments. Don't forget to get in on the drawing for the yarn and the save family farms campaigne at the right of this post ... As for me, I am very tired and heading to bed but I will leave you with this. It is an Awesome night isn't it???
Today Mom and I started our day working on the to do list. Remember all of this??

I just have to pick up some zip ties and have Mom finish the Cotswold. I think she is going to try and work on it some tomorrow ... Anyway, I then set out to see what I could get done for funding to get to Louisiana. I have raised the fees for the horse stall and the entry fees. Now to get the Vet bill, health papers, horse shots, hotel, gas and food covered. I worked on getting the one horse trailer back up and running too ... I take it in Monday to a guy to see if we can get the axle fixed or if it has to be replaced. The two horse trailer is to old to make a trip that far so it isn't an option. When Dad got home we put two of the window units in so we can finally have some A/C in the house.... Oh, wait ... You guys really don't want to know about the day to day stuff I did today do you?? Oh that is right you came to see what Yesterday's news was.... Okay I'll get to it .. I have made a few changes this year to try and make things better with our shares. We have different share payments available, have breed specific rovings as well as changing up the mohair roving blend and knowing more about what you will get for your money .... With that said, It is time to think hard about our Alpaca shares. First, the way it is now no one but spinners can get in on the Alpaca Shares. And all the share holders seems to be happy with that but I want the knitters, crocheters and weavers to be able to get in on the Alpaca Shares too. So I introduce to you our second yarn ... It will be a 70% Alapaca 30% wool blend. The wool will help the yarn have better memory. It will be made of Hope and Jorden and will be natural in color so it will be white. The new shares will be up on the General Store page and will be very limited. As for the spinners we will have Wendi and Charlie sold as raw fiber shares. If I can get all the shares sold I plan on looking into getting a new sire for the herd since we lost Juneau. Remember we still have the give away going in on ... To get in on it just donate anything you can to help me get to Louisiana, as every dollar counts. At steak is two skeins of my mohair/wool yarn and some extras ... Man today went nothing like I have planned. I planned a big announcment that I had been working on and now it is all messed up. Why you ask? Well, sometimes things happen that over shadow other things. I had an awesome announcement that will now have to wait until tomorrow so that I can introduce you to the new 2013 Oklahoma State 4-H Tie down Calf Roping Champion. This young man also took 4th place in the Break away roping at the State 4-H horse show ... You guessed it ... It is me! Look what I won ... Not only were Mom and Dad proud of me but our Extension Agent had those pictures up on Facebook faster then you can say POW ... It is the first Champion Title to come to our County from the Horse show ... With that said If I want to move on to Regionals I am going to have to raise some money. It is going to cost $500.00 and that doesn't include gas or meals. Please remember that we will have to travel with a horse and that means he needs a place to sleep as well so there are not just hotel costs but horse stall fees as well. So here is what I am going to do ... First is anyone wants to donate to the cost you can do so my using the New button on the General Store page to help me out through Paypal. If you donate to the cause you will get a code for a 10% discount on anything in the shop good for the next 30 days (Mom plans on updating it next Monday). I am also going to put a spot up in the Etsy shop so that those that don't have paypal accounts can donate to the cause too. If you donate either place you will also be entered to win two skeins of the yarn that just got back from the mill along with a few extra surprises. That's right a chance to win 800 yards of fingering weight 70% Mohair / 30% Wool blend ... Don't think I am not going to sit around doing nothing ... While you all donate .. I have a few places that I am going to try and work on tomorrow to get sponsored. Mom said if I came up with the $500.00 for the entry fees, stall fees and Hotel She would pay the Gas and food bills both animal and human. (Just a hint ... Mom plans on updating the shop Monday and yarn is included) I know the pictures aren't the best but for the first time EVER ... Mom forgot the camera and we all had to try and get shots with out phones ... Oh well. As for the big announcement it will post tomorrow ... Thanks in advance for helping me get to West Monroe LA....
Today Mom worked all day but I think she was scared of getting behind here at the house because she left me a list to do as long as my right arm... It started with Laundry, both folding and putting away. Then I moved on to straightening up the living room and cleaning my desk. I put away the dishes, hauled off two old junk rugs not to mention moving the stuff back out to the barn that Mom used to try and save the baby chick yesterday. All that while trying to fit in roping the dumbie and practice for tomorrow.
When Mom got home we had to pack the truck and that is were things got interesting... You see we have this neighbor who has a few sons that are about my Sister's age. Well, those sons like to drive like the Dukes of Hazard and today they did it in front of me and mom while we packed the truck. Well, Mom jumped in the truck followed the car to the neighbor's house and told the Step-father all about how this step son had just drove by our house and burned rubber and threw rocks and peeled out in front of her and me. Then the guys girlfriend tried to get lippy with Mom and Mom told her off because she looked over in the car and got even madder when she saw both of their Babies (both under the age of 4) strapped into their car seats in the back seat. Mom not only told them that driving that way would get Someone killed but maybe even those two babies. Then she told them Not only that but is just isn't neighborly to drive like that around other people's homes and since they weren't going to drive in a neighborly fashion, she wasn't going to be neighborly enough NOT to Call the cops if it ever happened again... Then right in front of them she took down the car's tag number and told them it was for future reference ... Okay at this point in my life I have to admit ... I am kind of embarrassed at my Mom's behavior in this matter but it was kind of cool too. I know there are alot of people that will tell me she did what was right, what needed to be done, but I am 15 and I know those people. Why couldn't she do stuff like that to people I don't know and don't ever have a chance of seeing around again? I know, I know. If it was a stranger she wouldn't care because she would know she wouldn't have to deal with them all the time. I know she did it because they drive around our home all the time and she loves me and the critters that live here to much to let someone go driving like that around here everyday. BUT ... I will say it again ... I am 15 and it is embarrassing ... I don't think I have ever seen Mom that mad in my life. I do have to say she was kind of funny. If you get her that mad, the Northern comes out in her. She went to talking 90 miles a minute very loudly and didn't let anyone say a word and it all came complete with HUGE hand gestures .... She left both the Dad and Girlfriend standing there dumbfounded and speechless... |
