Today was just like Yesterday. It was cold, wet and rainy. That is one thing I don't like about the weather right now. It makes me not have much time outside. I don't really have much to do around here but school work and chores. I do get to watch a few old Movies but that is about it. Mom says I should clean my room and I think if it is cold tomorrow she is going to make me. Oh well, I have to clean it sometime I guess. I just don't want to. Anyway, Today when I was bringing in the cattle I had to ride out and get three of them. They were just a little bit away so I jumped on Angel. They actually were close enough I could have walked but an excuse to ride Angel is what I wanted so I used her. I didn't even bother to take off the jacket. She is so good.
The only thing is that when I went to catch her she was bucking and stomping. Mom says that could mean she is sore from carrying me and I might have to stay off her and give her more time to get more muscle built up. After all she did put on a couple hundred pounds in about 90 days....
Well, today was rainy and cold. I did my school work and then I watched the old Rawhide TV series on DVD. Mom did make a really good Deer stew this morning. The whole house smelled like stew and I ate it for lunch and dinner. Mom spent the day cleaning and she even made me help some. Then she was off to bowling while Dad and I did chores for the night. I don't really like the rainy days because they are boring. I don't like staying inside much and rainy days make me do that.
I know I need to be thankful because we really do need the rain but it doesn't mean I have to like the rain.
Well, thing have been busy this last week. I have been working to get things done around here for the business. I worked on the web page and made an alpaca page but the story of my getting them isn't as exciting as the goat story or even the sheep story. I didn't really plan to sell Shares again but I ended up with Alpaca Shareholders along with a few Yarn and Roving. To be honest I am happy to have them. It is kind of fun to put together the packets and trying to make it better each time. This time I like the photo I picked but the lighting is off. I hope everyone is okay with it.
Anyway, Here is Video Cast 5 and this time it is late because it took forever to upload. And as an added suprize please watch to the very end. I love the ending it makes me feel so proud and it makes Mom tear up as she smiles.... Oh and today is Mom's Birthday. I think she had what I used to call a "Happy Day"
Today I worked to get the web page in order by adding a new Alpaca page. It is short but it tells the story of my getting them. Then I got all the work done on the business that I was putting off. All I have to do is get things mailed and I am caught up with everything.
Okay, so there is one thing that I am putting off and that is laying out my booth for my very first fiber festival. Mom said she will help me but that just gives me another reason to wait. I do have until July to figure it out so it isn't like it is a rush or anything.
This afternoon I had my Rodeo at the flying cow. I really didn't do much good in the team roping but I placed 2nd in the tie down and 3rd in the ribbon roping. Oh and I ended up buying another rope. Maybe it will work better for me and will get more calves caught.
While I was gone Mom worked on my sheep jackets. They are made kind of like the ones we make for calves out of old Burlap bags. These jackets are ones that are light and are going to keep the fleece from getting so much VM in them. With the Alpacas added the sheep get alot of hay dropped on them as they all share the same hay feeded. Mom said she will post some pictures after she get the elastic put in them (she lost the elastic she bought for this project so she will be picking some more up tomorrow ... Senior Moment for Mom I guess ... LOL)
Okay so today we didn't do anything we had planned. Dad and I were suppose to take Mom Bowling for her Birthday. Sister was suppose to come too. Since everyone was mad at Mom, Mom didn't want to go be around them. (It was for her birthday and why are they going to come and be mad at her and ruin her birthday?) To add to Mom's sour mood, it rained. We actually love the rain and we are thankful for it. We have had a pretty dry year this year and the rains came at a good time. The grass will start to green up now because we have been in the 60s for the last few days. Mom said it just made her feel blah because of the way she was feeling. She said something about being in a funk what ever that is.....
And it was alot of rain too ...
Did I mention it was ALOT ALOT of rain?? Well it was having trouble soaking in to the ground but when it finally did it was great.
As for Mom you all probably know her all to well. That means you know she is going to do something to cheer herself up, Right? Well, let me introduce you to Hope. (Mom calls her Hopey you know like the indian tribe) Hope is a Bassett from the shelter that had 5 puppies. Isn't she awsome???
And Check out those Pups! Aren't they cute. I am trying to talk Dad into letting me keep one.... LOL No it isn't working ...
Anyway, I am sure you guessed it ... Mom brought her work home with her again. We are going to be keeping Momma and Puppies until the puppies are weaned. As for me being in a better mood about not getting to take Mom out???
Well, we ate chili we made in the crock pot and watched a western Movie of Mom's choice. And in the end I got to do the best job of all ......
I got to hold and love and play with each Puppy as I took the puppies out of the carrier they were brought home in and put them in the big kennel Mom set up for them. You know .... I do get the best jobs around here!
Well, For those of you who read last night's blog, Sister went through with it and Mom is the new owner of Dante'. I have to say now, after seeing the horse and how it acts, Mom was right. Not knowing what you are doing can ruin a horse. Sister didn't work with this horse at all. He is spooky and jumps at everything. He tries to bite anything and everything that comes in his stall and he just acts plain nuts. He was hard to catch and then he through a fit in the trailer. When we got him home Mom had us put him in Ice's Pen. She said work starts tomorrow. She gave him a flake of Hay and went to cook dinner.
One good thing Sister did was give Mom some old papers on the horse. Even though they were expired Mom found the original owners name and phone number on it. She called the man and talked to him and he told her that Dante' wasn't like that when he sold him. He said that the horse would come right up to the fence and eat apples from his hand. He said that they are a high strung breed but that the horse has horse sense. He also said he isn't a horse. He is a Pony.
That explains why he is so small. I don't know what Sister was thinking. She would never be able to ride him. They are breed only to show or pull carts. Sister is way to big for him. Ponies aren't made to take over a hundred pounds. If she tried to ride him with a saddle she could have hurt him bad. With her weight and that of the saddle that poor horse wouldn't have a chance.
I feel kind of sorry for Sister but I feel really sorry for the pony. After talking to the first owner Mom decided that she would no longer call him Dante'. And you will never guess what Mom did next.
In the dark she grabbed 4 baby carrots and headed to the barn. I tagged along to see what she was going to do. She told me I could watch but to stay back and not say a word. She got Dante' to come up to the fence just by holding out one of those carrots and calling him. The funny thing was that she didn't call him Dante'. Instead she called the JAZZ MAN. It was the weirdest thing. He ate one of the carrots and played with the rest. Mom just grinned and headed to the house. Sometimes Mom can shock even me. Here is a picture of Mom's new Pony .... The Jazz Man. (Mom says she is calling him Jazzie for short) I think that fits him better anyway
Man, sometimes it sucks to be a kid. I have to say that my Mom and my Sister and Nana are not really seeing eye to eye right now. (that is a nice way to put it) Sister has this horse that she is keeping on my Uncle'e place but my Uncle is loosing the house and the horse can't stay there. My sister has had Nana and Papa doing her chores, buying all the feed and hay and she isn't even paying my Uncle to keep the horse there and he really needs the money. Mom is even buying my Uncle's family groceries ... It is that bad for them right now.
On the other hand I know my Sister loves that horse but she just keeps saying she can't afford a pay to keep him anywhere. I know he is her pet and that she loves the horse but I don't understand .... I told her to search craigs list for pasture land but she just says she did. When I did it I found some. I told her to put up a wanted ad and she says it wouldn't help she she can't afford to pay others to keep him. She tells me she can pay for feed and hay if she isn't paying to keep the horse but right now she isn't paying to keep him and she still isn't paying for feed and Hay so why can't she afford a place to keep him? She says she wants to get some land to put him on but that she can't afford it either right now. If she can't afford to take care of him, why is Sister and Nana so mad at Mom for buying him from her? Mom is just doing what she thinks is best for the horse. (Mom can afford to feed and keep him and she knows how to break him ... She taught me) She says Sister can take care of herself but an animal depends on humans and she says right now Sister is letting the horse down and Mom isn't happy about it and as we all know any animal not being treated right is an animal that Mom will go to bat for.
I know Sister isn't taking care of him and I know she left the halter on him until it made a sore in his Jaw. She actually has never taken the halter off the entire year and a half that she has had him. I know that isn't right but Sister doesn't know how to take care of a horse other then to feed, hay and water it. She hated the farm and was never very much into the animals. I know she isn't doing anything for him because she says she can only do one thing or the other but she isn't doing anything to try and keep him. I gave her Idea after Idea to keep him but she had all these reasons why she couldn't do any of them. Most the time it was she didn't have the money. She isn't even trying to do anything. Nana and Papa helped her get a loan to pay off all her other bills so why doesn't she have the money to do anything? I don't get it why doesn't she at least try to do something if she really wants to keep him. If it was my horse I would be out doing odd jobs to make the money to keep him.
Anyway, Mom bought him and she says she is going to break him and sell him. Nana is mad because she said Mom made Sister sell him to her, but she didn't, I was there. Nana says Mom should break it for Sister and do all this stuff for free but Mom says Sister is 24 years old and if she wants a broke horse she should have to pay for it like the rest of the world.
Well, We go pick up the horse tomorrow after Dad drops off the money with Sister. What a mess! Mom says that with all this going on she doesn't even want to do what we had planned for her Birthday. She says maybe she will just stay home and away from everyone so they can be selfish while she does what is best for the horse.
