Barn on the Web

Welcome

Picture
Hi, I am RJ and this is my story.  When I was six years old my parents moved from the small town of Nowata to the house my Dad grew up in. This move has had its ups and downs but for the most part it is wonderful. I was home educated because sometimes I had to keep very weird hours but I got to do things that other kids didn't. My parents turned the farm into a bottle baby farm and a place for rescue animals to come while on the road to recovery. We nurse anything that people bring us. Hurt, injured or just plain rejected by their Moms. We have cared for just about every species.  In the past we have nursed Horses, goats, sheep, calves, pigs, chicks, ducks, turkeys, kittens and puppies. We raise whatever anybody brings us. I like it when we get new little ones in and I still want to be in the action. I have spent the night in the barn many times. To me, it is kind of fun.
In 2011 I entered a contest and won a small flock of Angora Goats. Since then I have added sheep and started my own small Fiber farm.
I am working to make my Fiber Farm more then just an average fiber farm.  I want it to be where you can be a part of our lives in so many ways.   My Flock is named the QTs flock and it calls the Straw Family Farm home.  Not only do we work to produce the fiber needed to make our own yarn and roving but the farm is also open for farm visits where people can come see my Flock in person.  I have angora goats that we use to  produce a yarn and roving, as well as several small sheep flocks that we use to produce breed specific roving and batts.  Breeds include Shetlands, Dorsets and Angora Goats.  We also have our own Designer Sheep that we Call QT sheep.  They are our own personal Crosses with the softest fleece we have ever grown.

The older I get the more I think I don't just want to carry on all of my Family's Farm Traditions, but I want to make a living roping, riding and training horses.  I have had my own horse since Christmas of 2009 and I have done everything for the horse from break him to ride to train him to Calf Rope, team rope and Goat tie in the rodeos. Together that horse and I have won 7 titles in the sport of Rodeo.   At the age of 16, I started riding a second horse and her and I have 12 titles to our name.  As I have grown up I have continued my work with horses.  I now have Storm trained to rope and in her new home.  I also have acquired yet another horse named Whiskey.  I Pray that my success will continue. My newest chapter of my life started when I started training horses for others.
