So today was more hay hauling... with one exception. We have this one buyer and we call him a city slicker. (He is an awsome guy lets be very clear about that. We play with him when we call him that)You see he owns fancy equipment to do the job of good old fashioned work. That is fine by us but check this out.
This is a Bobcat with a hay accumulator on it. Basically you drive the Air conditioned Bobcat around and it picks up 10 bales at a time. It does make the work easier and it takes less man power but it is slower and you need an extra trailer to get it to the pasture.
This is the rig it takes to get the bobcat and accumulator to the pasture .... And to tell the truth me and one of my friends can throw the hay on the trailer and stack it just as fast with someone driving our truck and flat bed as they do using the fancy equipment. The reason is with the equipment there is more down time while you wait for the accumulator to gather the 10 bales and someone to move the trailer to the Bobcat to stack it. I didn't know there was down time in hay hauling until we did it like this. Check it out...
Side note Edit - Please leave any farm operations and haying Questions you might have in a comment on the blog today and I will answer them all including what we do different on our farm and why and other things we have tried but don't work for us and why.
