Around the Barn the animals start to put on long hair. And that includes the cattle and horses. If it is furry it is getting fuzzy. One big change is the big round bales of hay we provide to the animals. There are three places we put hay. They are the cattle in the pasture, the Goat pen and the Sheep pen. (the Alpacas are in with the sheep and goats so they get hayed too) Another change is that, after a month with the breeding belts and all the breeds being separated into different breeding pens, we have moved them back into the sheep and Goat pens.
Around the house there are changes going on as well. Most of them are things that Mom changes. Let us start with the crockpots. There are two. The first one is a small one that I put the hand warmers in after I use them. Remember these?? Hand warmers ... The other crockpot first comes out when Mom makes the first pot of chili. After that it just kind of stays out and Mom cooks alot in it. For tonight she already has roast going.
Anyway, Mom also only drinks coffee when it is cold. So the tea maker goes under the counter and the coffee pot comes out. This year when Mom got her coffeepot out the handle broke off so Ms. Karen had an extra little one and Mom is using it until she goes and gets a new one.
Another Change is that in the winter Mom always wants to get the house "under control" as she calls it. Yup, you guessed it being inside more mean cleaning more and the 15 minute rule is now back in effect. All the air conditions are gone from the windows now and the fans have been replaced by heaters.
This year we have also noticed a few things that are lacking as the seasons change. The Geese haven't been headed south in small flocks like they would have as the weather gradually changed. This year due to the quick weather change all the Geese are making the trip at one time and in larger flocks. That means they all left the north at once instead of a few at a time as the weather got cooler and cooler.
So I pose this Question to you ... What is one sure sign of winter coming on around your house??
