Today is Bitter sweet as they say ... You see for the last two days I have been working on a Easter present for everyone but I have to tell you God came up with the most perfect ending all by himself and I couldn't have planned it if I tried. So Sit back and enjoy the Show and by the Grace of God you will soon see a very Sweet ending or two ...
Just so you know it took youtube longer to get it posted Then I thought it would so I didn't get the blog posted until this morning ... Sorry
I know that we are busy with Lambs and getting ready for Easter and Mom doing Taxes but hey ... I can't believe I forgot to tell you ... The names of the new babies are Paige and Payton. Paige is smaller and more dark brown and Payton is bigger and jet black ... The one jumping in the Picture is Payton and the one just standing in the back is Paige.
So I asked Mom to take some Pictures for the Blog today and guess what she took photos of .... Ducks ... No Surprize there huh??
So then I sent her back out to take more pictures ... and she came back with this ...
She is getting closer ... At least there is a sheep in this picture ....
Really now Mom??? How long has she lived here?? Does she Not know what we want by now ??? Do I really have to tell her "We want to see the Babies"? I guess so! Finally here they are!
This picture looks funny but the biggest one was jumping ... they are both very active.... And I have to tell you Mom thinks the larger black one has the shiniest softest fleece ever ...
Well, my day started early. Okay so my day starts early to most all the time but this time I didn't get to go back to bed. At 3am feeding I found that Piper had given birth to twin black babies. They each have a little white tuff on their heads ... And since we have used all the batteries for the camera I had to use Mom cell phone to get the first shots. So here they are and guess what folks?? They need names that start with P.
And you know the routine... They are in the barn under a nice heat lamp. I will try to get more pictures later....
Okay so I have to confess. Mom and Dad both went to work and Mom left me a list of things I needed to get done. Nothing huge just little things to help Mom clean up. So what did I do?? Nothin'. I played with my lambs and watched Dukes of Hazzard. Before I knew it the day was gone and Mom and Dad were home and I had done Nothin' I have no idea where the day went but I enjoyed it ...
So today Mom was in a cleaning mood. She says she wants this house to stay clean ... Yeah, like that is going to happen. She also said she wanted the dust and Mud gone too but that probably won't happen either. Not this time of year anyway.
Mom and I did run back out and give Chris' calf some more shots. We have the fever gone but now he is just weak. If we can keep him hydrated and start building strength he will do fine but he is just so weak right now and without knowing what caused the fever we really don't know what we are up against.
Mom spent the rest of the day cleaning and when Dad got home we did a bit of roping but other then that the only other news I have is that Red the chicken is back to normal. I did watch a really cool show today. If you have Roku and Hulu Plus there is a tv show called Nature. There is like 6 shows but the one I have really liked so far was the one called Murdering of the Crows. I had no Idea crows were so smart. The Wolverine show was cool too but the Crow one surprized me .... I but you could even watch it without Roku if you have a hulu plus account but I don't know Because that is the only way we watch stuff like that. Anyway, Check it out... Crows remember your face if you are mean to one ...
Okay so after days with issues with the blog ... It now works ... Thanks to a guy named Dave at tech support who figured out one setting that was messed up for their newest update... So with that said if you have been following me on Plurk and twitter I think you should know Red is also having issues today. Who is Red? Well, since some don't know I will start from the beginning.
So today is another cold one. The wind is really blowing and we were staying home to make cookies and do taxes since Mom was a bit stiff from her joyride yesterday. Anyway, that was the plan and as we all know the best laid plans soon go awry.
First off we all slept in ... Well Okay, Mom slept in and that means no one got me or Dad up. So that means we all slept in (No Dad and I didn't over sleep, there is a fine line and we have not crossed it ... YET) (Mom slept in because she is stiff from Yesterday and slept in means we slept until a little before 8am) Anyway, Dad and I did chores and then went to do bottles. When we were at the barnyard we found that Momma Shetland had a really runny nose and so did Turtle. This cold snap has all the animals a bit off. Anyway, We put Momma Shetland and Pickles in the barn to help her keep warm because she is getting older. Then we gave Turtle a shot of Antibiotic. After that We had to head back out to Uncle Chris' and take care of the calf for him again. We changed the medication and gave him some stuff for coccidiosis because they called and said he had blood in his stool this morning but that he was doing better. Mom stayed home to work on the Taxes and get some cleaning done.
About 30 minutes later she noticed Momma in the cam and she was pacing and upset so Mom headed out to the barn to see why. When she got there she found Red the chicken laying lifeless in the sheep pen. She snatched him up and put him in her coat. She then went to Momma Shetland and found that Pickles had gotten out of the pen somehow. Mom put Pickles back in with Momma, while still hiding Red in her coat. After that she beat a path to the house.
By the way, Red is an 8 year old bantam show chicken. We use him for all our educational programs and seminars. Anyway, when Mom got to the house she worked to warm Red up. We don't know what happened but Red was very cold and Mom found smears of blood in one of the feed troths. With No clue where the blood came from she just worked to warm him. If he was injured when he got warm the blood would flow from any wounds and we could doctor him then. First Mom put him in a luke warm bath and held his head above the water. As the water started to cool off she wrapped him in a towel and started blowdrying him. When she got him all dry he at least sat up and looked like he was sleeping. She put him on a dry towel and placed him in front of the electric heater with a heat lamp shining down on him. Red Shivered and warmed for what seemed like forever. After about 6 hours ... Red isn't 100% but he is back. He is eating and drinking and crowing ... We couldn't be happier.
While all this was going on Mom found time to make cookies to make me feel better and she got the taxes sorted so all she has to do is total them tomorrow. Dad on the other hand went to his Parents house and worked on the two horse trailer so that the door will open better. Then he went out to eat with his Dad and left Mom at home to take care of his taxes and the farm. Okay, he felt guilty because he also brought home 5 baby Bronze Turkeys. We don't know if they are Hens or Toms but they are cute. The only problem is that with the Ducks, the turkeys and Red all taking up residence in the bathroom you can't hardly get to the stool.... Oh well, I am just happy Red is still with us... Check these photos
Finally he ate and drank ...
And check out the Turkeys ... They are called bronze turkeys so they should look like wild ones no
