Welcome to RJ's QTs ... Where Fiber Meets the West and a lifetime of Memories are made.

Picture
Hi, I am RJ of RJ's QTs.  This Fiber Farm is more then just a fiber farm.  It is where you can be a part of our lives in so many ways.  Not only do we have several small spinners flocks that we use to produce the fiber needed to make our own yarn and rovings but we are also open for farm visits.  The QTs flock is home to angora goats that we use to  produce a yarn that is 70% Mohair and 30% Wool as well as serveral small sheep flocks that we use to produce breed specific rovings.  They include Shetland, Cotswold a few Southdown Babydolls and a few Dorsets.  We also have our own Cotswold - Southdown Crosses with the softest fleece we have ever grown.  While we only have a few natural colored Shetlands, we are also home to a small registered herd of Alpacas that we use to produce Raw Fleece of all colors.  All together we work hard to produce Natural products from Fleece to Finished Garment.  From our feed to our products we try to never tamper with Mother Natures Perfections.
You are not only welcome to come to the farm to see the animals but we encourage you to stay for the experience.  Most of our animals have come from sale barns where they were being shipped off to slaughter but now they love to have you come hand feed them, walk amongst them and even some who are ready to let you try your hand at riding them.  If animals aren't your thing there is always a few quiet spot to just sit and read or take in the fresh country side.  There is even a spot for the fisherman to come try his hand on the pond and provide his family with dinner for the day.  And for our Gardeners our community flower and Fiber Gardens will always need tending.  From Animal lovers to Fiberholic, to Gardeners, to Fisherman, we have something for everyone and adventure for the whole family where you can build a life time of Memories.
If a tradtional farm visit just isn't possible, don't worry,  You are always welcome to come join us here on the web and follow us and the animals through the blog where you can take part in everything from naming the newborns to helping me figure out my homework.  No matter how you take your adventure, we will always try to make sure you feel like a part of the family.

Now Check us out for yourself and make memories to last a life time
while you become part of the adventure!

Here is what others are saying about our products

I'm a knitter and spinner. I even raise my own angora bunnies and sell handspun yarn and handknit hats. Because of my background in the fiber world I am enthusiastic about supporting independent yarn dyers and small fiber businesses. I was lucky to get two skeins of RJ's mohair/wool blend yarn. The hand (feel) of the yarn is amazing. Very soft. The type you want to just cuddle with--forget bothering to knit something with it! To Gild the Lily, I dyed the skeins a lovely orange-red sunset color. Not only did the yarn take up the dye fabulously, the natural sheen of the mohair lends a wonderful luster and depth to the yarn, creating jewel-like colors. AND, I knit a pair of socks with ONE skein!
I have also purchased alpaca fiber from him. It was cleaner than most unprocessed alpaca fiber I have purchased, and the quality of the fiber was exceptional. I washed, carded and blended it with some wool and my bunny fiber, and got a fabulous yarn from it. I'd snap up either fiber or yarn if i were you--the prices are more than reasonable and the quality is exceptional.
All my dealings with Mr. RJ have been endlessly professional and friendly. It is exciting to follow this young man's adventures, troubles, and accomplishments. He has been open to and asking for feedback--a good sign of an eager learner!

I am an avid knitter, and an avid buyer of yarn, and the yarn I've acquired through my RJ's QTs CSA share is some of the best yarn I've ever seen or bought. I've received my share twice, and have signed up for a third share. The yarn is just so "yummy" - it's unbelievably soft. I'm also a big supporter of independent yarn producers and dyers, and I can't think of a better young businessman to support than RJ. I highly recommend the yarn from RJ's QTs!

I have heard that no good deed goes unnoticed. My start with RJ began when he was trying to add sheep to his herd of Goats. His mother is a friend and had been keeping me up to date on his business endeavors and yes I voted on his video that led to his first fiber animals. She told me of his plan to use investors to grow his herd. What an enterprising young man, so I bought a share of yarn because I did not know what roving was:). I then realized that I had no way to use the yarn, so that led to knitting lessons while on vacation. That was such fun that I took a spinning class. Then I needed both yarn and roving and knew just where to get them from RJ Straw. Since then I have been to fiber festivals, completed a yarn hop, and joined a fiber circle. I am lucky because I have had the pleasure of being a visitor to the Straw farm. I can't express how wonderful it is to get to meet the animals in person and later get to create something out of their fleece. The Straw family is very kind and patient with newbies like me, even when the ram I transported got loose in their house. The atmosphere at the farm and the interaction with the family and the animals renews my spirit and is kind of like an oasis for my very busy life. I could get fiber other places but I prefer to go to the Straw Farm where I can get quality product created with caring and a true family atmosphere. My little investment paid out dividends I never anticipated and brightened my life immeasurably. I encourage everyone to become a QT, you never know where it might lead!!
